The vision at Marcus Whitman is to “foster innovative and diverse life-long learners who
positively impact the world community.” As many of you may have heard, MWCSD will be
going 1:1 with Chromebooks (computer) in the fall of 2019. This means that students in grades
6 - 12 will be able to use a school issued Chromebook in school and be allowed to take that
device home. Students in grade K - 5 will have 1:1 access within their classrooms, but will not
be taking devices home. As part of this initiative, our goal is that:
We aspire to give all learners the opportunity to:
● Use technology ubiquitously (It’s the norm)
● Be innovative, creative and self-directed learners
● Transfer skills outside of the learning environment
● Connect globally with real-life purposes through technology
● Supplement local resources
● Practice, model and act as good Digital Citizens
We know that you will have many questions about this rollout and how it will be embedded into
your child’s learning experience. With this in mind, the 1:1 committee of teachers and
administrators will be offering sessions for parents and family members to come learn about the
initiative. This spring we will have sessions on May 28th at 4 pm and 6 pm in the HS
Auditorium. We encourage all parents UPK - 11 to attend. Students are welcome as well. In
August, we will hold additional sessions. More details to follow on those dates.
If you have any questions ahead of time, I encourage you to reach out to your child’s principal.
Thank you and we look forward to seeing you on May 28th.
